Welcome everyone to the very first Sonic Adventure Speedrunning News roundup! I'll occasionally be posting updates to the BB whenever something major happens with the game.

Despite its age, SA1 still has a lot of activity! This post will mostly serve as a quick introduction to the active SA1 Speedrunning community.

SA1 Officially split from SADX as a dedicated speedgame on September 18th, 2022. The SA1 (DC) leaderboard can be found at: speedrun dot com slash SA1 [ Note this website does not play well on DC hardware ]

Since the split in 2022, there have been many major discoveries and strategies pioneered to continue developing this 20+ year old Dreamcast game.

Discovered in the early 2020s by SQeefy and WitherMin, it is possible to skip cutscenes in the game by finding ways to die while entering them. This has totally changed the way every aspect of the full-game run is approached.

As for Individual Levels, it has been discovered that the Japanese version of the game provides a significant advantage to the player in Trial Mode upon spawning in. The timer starts later, and the player has full control of the stage before the timer begins. Despite this advantage, AxlThunder continues to dominate most of the Action Stage leaderboards for Sonic with his persistence to high level IL gameplay on a US copy of the game.

The current World Record for Sonic's Story sits at a 52:43 with loads removed. The World Record has been lowered by a very significant margin since the beginning of the 2020s, and the entire known history of the game's record progression can be found on the speedrun dot com page.
