Damn bots!

SA2's kart racing section gives me PTSD

Why did they give the bots such perfect controls? Tight corner coming around? Motherfucking bots turn almost a complete 90 while I gotta drift it. The amount of time I spent trying to get the emblems for these races is stupid.

And these bots are fucking relentless, one slip up can cost you the entire race. It'll usually happen when your at the final laps, when you're at your max speed, you'll crash. When you finally get back on your feet, the bots have already zoomed past and left you in last.

Worst part is they missed a huge opportunity. Considering that the race track is basically a reskinned Twinkle Park/Circuit, I'm surprised they didn't reuse the layouts for a cool callback, or even just make the Twinkle Park bumper cars downloadable.

This also somewhat extends to A-ranking the car sections of Tails and Rouge, many lives were lost thanks to some random car or flying straight into a wall.

All things considered, I really enjoy the controls of the kart racing as a simple minigame given their scope and context. If the later emblem missions weren't so infuriatingly difficult, I think people would have a generally higher opinion of them. And I definitely agree that there should've been some additional (and more unique and imaginative) downloadable courses.

I could see this kind of kart racing being a fun side mode in a future Adventure-inspired Sonic game if they end up going back in that direction. We just have to hope current Sonic Team can make Sonic feel good to control again. It'd be the first time they've done so since Generations imo, so I'm not exactly holding my breath.
