DC to Phone Line Tips

Greetings DC users, i'm slowly collecting things for my Dreamcast system and eventually i want to get it online, i was considering a DreamPi ( and honestly even if i get my idea to work, i might do that anyways when i move out and get back on my feet ) but anyways, i live in my grandmothers house and we have Wi-Fi but also, we have an unused phone line!

There's one in my room far away, I think its connected to a landline nobody uses, my nana recons we have a long enough cord, but just in case, we know an electrician who can probably put one behind/near the TV.

I genuinely dont know where to look for information about actually using a phone line to connect a DC online in 2023, so i'm hoping this is active enough for anyone who would know the process of actually setting up a connection with the Modem and an actual phone line! ( Might ask other forums when we get closer and closer to doing it )

I'm unfamiliar with connecting the DC online via phone line, sorry :/

I don't think this board is active enough either to ever give you an answer (not to mentions it's been days since you posted this without a reply)

If you really want to figure it out, I highly recommend joining DC-Talk and the DC-Talk Discord server, they're much more active and have people that are knowledgeable in this sort of stuff

its cool, it might take some time before i even do it anyways, i might move out in the summer of 2024 so perhaps then i wont even do it via the phoneline. But just in case if time comes soon i might take your advice...

From memory, it *should* be straight forward if you have the log-in info for your provider. Technically it's possible if that phone-line is still in service, but you probably wouldn't be able to connect to any of the unofficial game servers that are mapping themselves to the old addresses unless you go through a custom DNS (something the DreamPi and emulators do) to map the old addresses to the new ones.
Emulators use Dreamcast Live's 46.101.91.123, which is to be configured as 'DNS1'.

dialup.world offering an ISP service to use with modems for free. Should work with the Dreamcast but I have no way to test it right now
